About SBC

Starting January 2005, MGS will offer Upper Primary and Secondary School pupils the option of the Sophia Blackmore Class. A unique and customised scholastic programme, the SBC is tailored by MGS educators for distinctive, talented pupils who would benefit from a more challenging academic curriculum.
What?
- Living up to Sophia Blackmore’s vision to provide the best education for our daughters, the SBC seeks to empower, enrich and excite exceptional young minds in a more challenging environment, and bring out their potential to the fullest.
- The SBC seeks to address the needs of a group of pupils who have a different pace and learning profile.
- The SBC curriculum is modelled after the Gifted Education Programme (GEP) in consultation with renowned educators in the field of gifted and talented education.
- SBC pupils stand to benefit from the current strengths of an MGS education by being part of the overall school body, sharing in much of the mainstream’s activities.
Who?
- The SBC pupil is inquisitive, has the capacity to learn more quickly and possesses higher reasoning and critical thinking skills.
- Teachers for the SBC are identified based on experience, teaching styles, and most importantly, their willingness to engage and challenge pupils of exceptional abilities.

How?
- The SBC is introduced at Primary 4 and at Secondary 1.
- In the Primary School, the SBC starts with one class of 35 pupils. In the Secondary School, every level includes two classes comprising 25 pupils each.
- Entry to the SBC at Primary 4 will be based on the GEP P3 Screening Test results as well as performance in school examinations.
- Graduating Primary 6 pupils are invited to take a skills-based selection test which includes humanities, mathematics and science, as well as non-verbal abstract reasoning. The test is administered by the school but results are analysed by external professionals.
- Application to join SBC via Direct School Admission or after posting to MGS to Sec One in Dec.
