Before I knew it, we are already in February! My best wishes go out to all of you – may this year be one filled with God’s peace and joy and we hope that you will support our Alumnae events planned for this year.

The Youth Chapter has been officially launched. On 23rd January 2010, the Class of 2009 led by their Head Prefect Eva Cheung gathered at the Bamboo Courtyard for a homecoming. It was a chance to get together and celebrate their excellent “O” level results as well as to meet up with some of their teachers. Although not members of the Alumnae, we want to encourage our younger “old girls” to come back to MGS and to remain connected with us and the school. Two of our more recent graduands, Crystal Wong and Jocelyn Ong shared with the Class of 2009 what the school means to them.

Lunch and a pen for those who attended was sponsored by the Alumnae and we hope that this will become a yearly tradition where old girls, not necessarily confined to the graduating class, will come back to visit the school and renew old ties. The activities for the day were planned by Eva and her prefectorial team and the climax of the day was when the girls released helium balloons with their wishes and aspirations tied to them – sending them heavenward, acknowledging God’s hand in their future!

A week later, we also joined Parentlink and the P1 cohort at the annual P1 picnic. This time the activities were centered in the amphitheatre and the Alumnae set up a stall outside the General Office. We tried to attract the little girls by offering free sweets whilst boldly displaying our wares for sale! Sadly there were few takers for our wares – we welcome any ideas you may have as to what we should sell – umbrellas? Post It notes? Send in your ideas if any to us at mgsalumnae@gmail.com.

Next on our Agenda is the Past vs Present games which is scheduled to take place on 17th April 2010. For the first time in 11 years, the ‘Present’ team took the Anna Tham Challenge Shield last year. We need to regain the shield and show the “Present” girls that we may be “old” girls but we are not a spent force! So do come and join us for a day of fun and friendly competition.

And of course Founder’s Day is on the 25th July 2010. We are back at the Shangri-la Hotel Ballroom this year to celebrate our 123rd anniversary. If you are planning to celebrate this event also with your cohorts, do plan to meet at the Founder’s Day Dinner. Please let us know if you would like to be seated together or if you need us to help publicise your reunions through our email blasts – just drop us a note at our email address.

Speaking of emails, we have quite a few emails bouncing back whenever we send out these email blasts. So here is a reminder – if you change your email address, please let us know. AND if you know that your fellow alumna has changed her email address and is not getting this message, please remind her to drop us a line as well so that we can update our mailing list.

Best wishes,
Barbara Chee
